Hoop Dance instructor Stephanie Cohen (Stevie) formerly taught classes in the North Jersey area. She has her BA in Psychology from Fairleigh Dickinson University and aspires to get her masters degree in Dance and Movement Therapy in the near future.
Teaching Hoop Dance has provided Stevie with a unique opportunity to integrate her two passions the study of the mind and the study of the body. She uses hoop dance specifically, as a tool not only for fun and fitness, but for mental wellness in addition to physical wellness. Her main goal is to help everyone experience the benefits that hooping has on not just the body , but the mind and the soul.
Hoop Dance transcends the benefits of regular cardiovascular exercise in ways you could never imagine. Not only does daily hooping regulate blood flow to the brain, it strengthens and tones the body as well as the heart. Hoop dance is unique in its ability to provide the individual with a safe space inside their hoop to explore their creativity, to develop flow, and most importantly, to understand the mind-body connection through the meditative state that can be learned through the dance. When learning how to move with the hoop, the mind becomes more focused, and slowly is able to enter a state of meditation. Hooping which is exercise as well as dance, releases endorphins and a sense of calm well-being.
As of now Stevie teaches Hoop Dance classes for fun and fitness. While her students may experience the mental health benefits from hooping, her classes are not geared specifically towards overcoming any mental health obstacles or physical injury.
Classes are focused on the power of movement and flow. Using the hoop collectively as a class, and individually, students are able to explore our creativity, generate positive energy and have an amazing outlet to just MOVE!
